Mara: I wish Giants had another dozen players like OBJ

To be clear, I’m not saying the Giants shouldn’t have Beckham’s back. Given the pressures of the market and Beckham’s sometimes mercurial behavior, it’s actually been refreshing to see an organization stand behind a superstar who isn’t doing anything egregiously wrong. If Beckham’s one true sin is wanting to train on his own — something that a good portion of NFL players wish they could do without fear of repercussion — than he’s worth all the “trouble” otherwise. Outside of a reckless on-field brawl with Josh Norman two years ago, the “trouble” amounts to being too passionate on the sidelines or having fun during the free portion of the offseason. Where have we seen that before?

Beckham is one of the best players in football and cheap nhl jerseys and deserves to be recognized as such. Until he’s not, the Giants won’t even dream about trying to change who he is on and off the field.

For quite some time now, quarterbacks have been viewed as the most important players on the field — and that has resulted in field generals typically dominating the upper crust of the “Top 100.” While many will continue to tout quarterbacks as the MVPs of the league, I believe this year’s list — coupled with the results of the 2017 NFL Draft — might signal a changing mentality within the league that could alter team building going forward. Instead of ranking QB1s ahead of other skill players simply due to the perceived importance of the position, players are increasingly valuing playmakers at a higher level, particularly pass catchers.

In the final “Top 100” episode of this season, the players crowned Tom Brady at No. 1, but they also had three wide receivers — Julio Jones (No. 3 overall), Antonio Brown (No. 4) and Odell Beckham, Jr. (No. 8) — ranked ahead of the league’s reigning MVP (Matt Ryan, No. 10). Jones and Brown also finished ahead of two-time MVP Aaron Rodgers (No. 6).

“I told him he can be a Hall of Famer,” Weaver revealed. “Now, there’s a number of things that have to happen. You’ve got to stay healthy, you have to be consistent and persistent. But he has all the qualities and athletic attributes in order to do that.”

Earlier this week, Clowney said these words “meant a lot” to him, before providing a juicy admission: “I’m not surprised. He sees my potential. He sees what I can do. I’ve been talking to him since he came in the building. He sees me working. He coached me. I would say hats off to my coach and I’m going to get ready to go for him.”

Pelissero joins NFL Media from USA Today where he covered the NFL nationally since 2013. During his time at USA Today, his team earned an Associated Press Sports Editors Top 10 award. He began his career in 2003, reporting on the Minnesota Vikings for KFAN.com. After a stop with the Eau Claire (Wis.) Leader Telegram, Pelissero covered the Green Bay Packers for the Green Bay Press Gazette and the Vikings for 1500 ESPN Twin Cities.

Pelissero’s work also includes hosting radio shows on SiriusXM NFL Radio and 1500 ESPN Twin Cities which he will continue to do in his role with NFL Media.

“They kind of have an idea,” he said. “They’ve seen how I’ve been talking, how I’ve been working and just kind of my focus in the offseason. I haven’t really been talking or working out like a retired player. So now I’ll probably get a lot of messages from a lot of people. A lot of people didn’t really know because I kind of just wanted to keep it under wraps and not jump to quick decisions or anything like that.”

Orr’s decision thrusts a good player in his athletic prime back onto the market at a time when many rosters have already been set. He would have been an obvious candidate for a long-term deal in Baltimore, but at age 25, Orr is now in full control of his near future.

Pugh is right, though Beckham is better than many at fanning flames that are about to go out anyway. Beckham received far more critical treatment than someone like Rams star Aaron Donald, who also skipped his team’s entire slate of voluntary workouts. He is arguably just as valuable to his particular unit.

At this point, nothing Beckham does is going to become an issue with Giants management or its players until the production stops matching any negative attention (fair or unfair) Beckham attracts. Just last week, Giants co-owner John Mara said he wished he had a dozen players like Beckham. Before that, he said he wanted Beckham in New Jersey for the rest of his career.
